Mobile shoppers convert lower than desktop shoppers mostly because typing on a phone is friction, not because mobile intent is weaker. This tester scores your checkout on the five factors that drive most of that gap, step count, guest checkout, wallet pay, autofill, and correct input types, and tells you which fixes will recover the most conversion first.
How to use it
- Select how many steps or screens your checkout flow takes, single page, two steps, or three or more.
- Rate whether guest checkout is available, whether wallet/one-tap pay (Apple Pay, Google Pay) is supported, whether autofill and saved details work, and whether you use correct mobile input types and keyboards, each as Yes / Partially / No.
- Read the checkout score, friction level, and verdict, then start with whichever factor is flagged as the biggest mobile win.
Methodology
Step count contributes up to 25 points (single page=25, two steps=16, three or more=6). The other four factors each contribute a weighted maximum, scaled by Yes=full/Partial=half/No=zero: guest checkout 20, wallet pay 20, autofill 15, correct input types 20. These sum to a 0-100 checkout score; friction level is simply 100 minus that score.
Scores of 75+ are graded "Low friction," 50-74 "Some drag," and below 50 "High friction," reflecting how heavily each missing factor compounds drop-off specifically on mobile, where every extra tap and manual field carries more cost than on desktop.
This is a structural self-assessment based on what your checkout actually offers, not a measured mobile conversion rate or a simulated user session.

Guest checkout and wallet pay are consistently the two highest-leverage fixes, both remove the two biggest sources of mobile typing friction: creating an account and manually entering card and address details. Add those before touching anything cosmetic.
Step count matters, but a single, well-optimized two-step flow with wallet pay and autofill often converts better on mobile than a single page that still forces manual card entry and account creation. Friction lives in the fields and taps required, not just the number of screens.
